Recording of the solo recital in the Czech Television archive

Kristina Fialová – First Lady of the Czech Viola

Kristina Fialová is considered one of the most talented and successful musicians of the new generation. She dedicated her solo concert at the Leoš Janáček International Music Festival in Ostrava’s St. Wenceslas Church to composers who have always been close to Ostrava: Paul Hindemith and Krzysztof Penderecki. Penderecki’s Cadenza for solo viola is a composition in which Fialová demonstrates not only her technical erudition, but above all her refined tone and superbly constructed musical phrases. The concert will also feature other key works of the viola repertoire – Paul Hindemith’s Sonata for Solo Viola Op. 25, No. 1 and the Sonata Pastorale for Solo Viola by American Lillian Fuchs. The highlight of the programme is the Sonata for solo viola by György Ligeti.
